I have had a Barbour jacket ever since I can remember. As a ten year old girl I would wear my Barbour every week horse riding and to the stables.
Growing up in rural Surrey (south east England for readers from outside the UK) they were practically uniform. You stood out if you weren’t wearing your Barbour when out in the village, walking the dog or popping into the Post Office.
My Mum, Dad and sister all had one too – and still do to this day.
Unfortunately, mine somehow got lost when we moved to Australia.
So when we went home to the UK last month for a holiday buying a new Barbour jacket was at the top of my shopping list. Well not quite at the top – Marks and Spencer food was number 1!
I headed into the Regent Street Barbour flagship store in London, knowing that I wanted a classic navy blue Beadnell jacket.
Turns out that I am a size 6 not an 8 as first thought. The Beadnell has such a tailored fit too. Perfect for me as I am quite petite and some coats can look boxy or way too big, but this fit perfectly. And to my great surprise, after resisting the recommendations of my husband for a while to try the green, I fell in love with the classic olive colour, as soon as I tried it on.
So I got the Beadnell jacket in Olive Green, and also bough the hood to attach. Not only that I bought the Barbour dog coat for our labrador. Thank goodness I could claim the tax back as we left Heathrow!
A Barbour is an investment I know it will last me for many many years. You can rewax your Barbour every couple of years or take it into the store and they will do it for you.
Since being back in Australia I’ve worn it nearly every day (its still winter here). When I head out on a dog walk on a wet day it looks like I’ve just been transportered from east Surrey – Barbour jacket, Hunter boots, roll neck and Buddy my lab all matchy matchy in his Barbour too!
Its so comfy. And we all know the Queen and members of the Royal Family love their Barbour’s, so you know its good quality. Barbour has Royal Warrants to provide the jackets to HM The Queen, HRH The Duke of Edinburgh and HRH The Prince of Wales.
Here I’ve paired it with some trusty Timberland boots and jeans with a black roll neck from Burberry. Equally I like to wear a crisp white shirt underneath and favourite flats. It can be worn with so many outfits.
Please let me know what you think and also if you love your Barbour too. Here is a link to the Barbour website.
Have a great week.
