A few weeks ago, before the COVID-19 restrictions and lockdowns had begun, I wrote the following post about the combat boot trend. Those of us who live in the Southern Hemisphere were at the start of autumn and preparing for winter. But with all the social distancing and people staying at home I held off on publishing this article.
I re-read it again a couple of days ago and have decided to share it with you. Like many of you, I am at home most days, not able to go out, but am looking forward to the day we can. Please enjoy reading and here’s to beating this virus so we can all go out and get dressed up again.
Back in September 2017 I wrote a blog post about chunky heel boots. Earlier that year I bought a pair of Balenciaga’s and I loved them.
So I am very pleased that the chunky heel/combat boot trend has continued and is still as strong in the current autumn and winter collections from the northern hemisphere.
I know that the combat boot trend might not be for everyone, but it’s definitely one we will see a lot of this season, It’s also a boot that can be styled on so many different ways. Yes they can be a bit edgy but still be feminine.
They are a completely different vibe to my classic pumps and flats. The combat/chunky boots I have in my wardrobe are my Balenciaga’s, Steve Madden’s (black and brown) and of course my trusty Timberlands. I have worn them with two of my outfits to Australian Fashion Week – firstly in 2017 and then again in 2019.
It’s the beginning of autumn here in Australia, still warm with sunny days, and perfect for wearing my combat boots, with pretty dresses and smart shorts.
There are so many options out there on the high street. From Chanel and Louis Vuitton to Zara and All Saints, there is a style that will appeal to most and everyone’s budget. I love the Louis Vuitton Wonderland Ranger boots in their current collection but they are a bit out of my price range!
The six most common ways I wear my combat boots in autumn and winter are:
- Short skirt and teddy bear jacket
- All black outfit – leather leggings and knit jumper
- Street style – tartan mini skirt with a white t-shirt and big sunnies (see my blog post from January 2019 here)
- Mini dress – perfect for those spring and summer days
- Denim – skinny jeans with a military style jacket or shirt
I would love to know your thoughts and if and how you wear them.
Thank you for visiting my blog. Please feel free to subscribe.
